In the 18th season in Miami Heat franchise history, the team finally reached the pinnacle of the sport by winning the 2006 NBA championship. The Heat went 41-20 after the great Pat Riley resumed coaching the team and finished second overall in the Eastern Conference. In the first round of the playoffs, the Heat defeated the Chicago Bulls in six games, and the New Jersey Nets in five games in the semi-finals to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Detroit Pistons in a rematch of last year's playoffs. After splitting the first two games of the series, the Heat defeated the Pistons in six games to advance to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history, where they faced the Dallas Mavericks. After losing the first two games of the series, the Heat recovered to win the next four games and the first ever championship in franchise history.
Miami and team owner Micky Arison spared no expense in the design of the rings commemorating the historic moment in franchise history, particularly in the “A” players version rings like the one presented here. This ring is identical to the ones presented to Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O’Neal, and the rest of the Heat players. The face of the ring features the Larry O’Brien trophy front and center, set into a faceted black stone. This is one of the only parts of the ring not filled with genuine diamonds, over five carats in all. “WORLD CHAMPIONS” shines at the top and bottom of the face, while even more gems run the upper and lower perimeter. The “MIAMI HEAT” logo is featured on the left shank, inset with more diamonds, above the word “FAMILY.” The right shank is adorned with a diamond-studded rendering of the American Airlines Arena set between the name “PETROVIC,” the team’s nickname “15 STRONG,” “FAITH,” and “2006.”
Inside the band are the words “IT WAS OUR TIME” above the date of the Finals clinching Game 6, “6-20-06.” To the left of these words is the hallmark “© JOSTENS 14K.” The Larry O’Brien trophy is set in a black stone in the middle of the ring with over 5 carats of diamonds while the World Champions, lower and upper perimeter are adorned with shimmering diamonds. The ring is size 11 and weighs an incredible 136.33 grams. The whopping 221 diamonds have a total carat weight of 9.6, this ring stands as one of the largest NBA Championship rings ever produced. The specimen is one of the most aesthetically pleasing rings SCP Auctions has ever handled and arguably that the NBA has ever produced.
