Beatlemania was sweeping the globe in 1964 when the Fab Four’s world tour pulled arrived in Australia in June. Though the group was used to throngs of adoring fans meeting them wherever they played, the 300,000 that awaited them when they arrived at their first tour stop in Adelaide simply astounded them. John, Paul, and George had to make do without Ringo as the drummer came down with tonsilitis and would join the band at a later date on the tour. To kick off the start of their Aussie tour and promote their June 13 and 14 show at Centennial Hall, Wayville, the band appeared at a civic reception at Adelaide’s South Australia Hotel. Present at the press conference and reception was Bob Moors, the compere of Adelaide’s ADS.7 television station’s Saturday Variety Show. Moors obtained the signatures of the Beatles for his personal assistant Christine Gasmier, who requested them to give to her brother and wife. While Ringo has been replaced at this moment in the tour by Jimmy Nicol, his presence on a Beatles group signature piece is significant in that he was with the band for only a short period and the two concerts in Adelaide his only ones as a temporary “Beatle” in Australia. The cut shows toning from age. There are two staple impressions at the top of the page along with some light creasing along the right side – none of which affects the sharp blue ballpoint signatures. The piece is accompanied by a press photo of the Beatles along with ADS.7 television station personalities Bob Moors and Brian Taylor. The signatures come with a LOA from Beckett and a Letter of Provenance from Christine Gasmier that recounts the circumstances of how she obtained this rare signed sheet of the Fab Four.
