- Lot Description
Offered here is a rarely seen, vintage original on-site poster promoting a famous exhibition match between two of the most decorated football clubs in history. On June 12, 1963, FC Barcelona hosted Santos FC at Camp Nou. It would be the third and final time Pelé played on the hallowed pitch in the Catalon region. Just 22 years old and at the peak of his stardom after leading Brazil to its second straight World Cup the prior year, Pelé attracted a crowd of 85,000. He scored in his previous two matches there, but he was held scoreless on this day as Barca prevailed 2-0. At the time, Santos was recognized as the #1 club in the world after winning the 1962 Intercontinental Cup, a feat the Brazilian club would repeat in Sept. 1963.
The colorful poster features a large portrait image of Pelé in his Santos jersey over Barcelona's iconic home stadium with the two club’s 1962 period pennants. All text providing the match details is in Spanish. Club sponsor Cacaolat (Spanish chocolate milkshake company) and its factory locations are mentioned as well. The bottom corners have key production stamps from the poster’s manufacturer. The 17” x 24” original poster is exceptionally well-preserved (NM) and comes backed by a canvas matting with overall dimensions of 19.5” x 27”. Ready to be framed and displayed. - Shipping Info
