- Lot Description
In the early 1960s, there was no more popular ballplayer in America than Mickey Mantle. Like Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio before him, Mantle was the face of the Yankees franchise as he led the team through its third dynasty era. This Mantle portrait was taken by noted photographer Louis Requena, who chronicled New York baseball from 1958 to 2008. Requena captured The Mick in a casual moment, with a mischievous grin on his lips as something off-camera attracted his attention. With Yankee Stadium as a magnificent backdrop, this Requena Type 1 of Mantle is one of the best to come to market in quite some time. The front of the photo features sharp detail and full borders. The reverse of the photo is blank except for a simple “Mickey Mantle” handwritten in pen. The photograph measures 8” x 10” and has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA.
