Outstanding portrait photograph of Frank "Home Run" Baker of the Philadelphia Athletics at the peak of his powers. One of his finest images ever taken, it dates to the 1913-14 period based on the jersey collar style. During the Deadball Era, Baker was baseball's best "power" hitter and won the AL's home run title four straight seasons (1911-14) with tallies of 11, 10, 12 and 9. The third baseman helped Connie Mack's boys win three World Series in 1910, 1911 and 1913.
This artistic die cut was used by a newspaper over a century ago. The photo of Baker posing in his A's home whites has a slight chip on his right ear. Overall image clarity is off the charts on this 110-year old photo. Really pops with a dark background.
