- Lot Description
Bill Russell had won a record-setting 11 NBA titles in his 13-year career when he decided to hang up his sneakers following the 1968-69 NBA season. Russell sold his retirement story to Sports Illustrated for $10,000, and it ran in the August 4th edition of that year. Russell is pictured beaming on the golf course. He signed this particular copy in bold blue permanent marker. The magazine was assessed by CGC as an 8.0, making there just two graded higher in the authenticator's pop report. Beckett has authenticated the autograph.
