- Lot Description
Before he was the “Left Hand of God,” Sandy Koufax was a teenage bonus baby trying to stick in the majors. Though it would take several years before he showed the greatness that made him a legend, Koufax had occasional flashes of brilliance, such as his 14 strikeout victory on August 27, 1955 – his very first big league win. This light hearted Type III photo captures Koufax’s elation at the moment, posing before a chalkboard with “14 STRIKE OUTS” written on it. Another version of this Type III has recently sold at auction for $550, but ours is the larger version. Measuring 8” x 10,” the Type III photo shows some edge wear and creasing to the wide border, most noticeably in the lower left corner. The back shows toning with some water staining. The photo has been encapsulated and graded a Type III by PSA.
