Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals took place on June 14, 1998, an iconic game that had Michael Jordan's best highlight ever. With 5.2 seconds left in the game, the Chicago Bulls were trailing the Utah Jazz 85-86. Jordan crossed over Byron Russell and nailed a jump shot from behind the free-throw line to put the Bulls up 87-86. That would be the final score, winning the Bulls their 6th championship in eight years. Nearly every notable list of MJ's greatest career moments ranks "The Last Shot" #1. ESPN, Sporting News, USA Today, NBA, and the list goes on.
Offered is one of just four Type 1 photographs to exist of the legendary moment. This is also the best of the four camera angles, captured by photographer Mike Proebsting. No other image captures the exact moment the ball goes through the net as the clock ticks down to 5.6 seconds, AND Jordan's now-famous follow-through pose for the camera now synonymous with the moment. Posters, statues, and action figures of MJ in this exact pose have been made in the years that followed.
The image frozen in time is razor sharp with incredible details visible. You can make out the agony on the faces of the Delta Center crowd in Utah as the life is sucked out of the building and the moment is immortalized as the best in Jordan's laundry list of career highlights. Nearly all the examples of this image are copies or modern prints. This is THE original Type 1 image shot and printed in 1998, one of just four in existence (The only other copy to sell publicly recently sold for over $34,000 at a competitor's auction house) Encapsulated Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
