During his heyday as the Giants All-Star closer, Brian Wilson used more than his thick black beard to show his big personality. “B-Weezy” is a sneakerhead who loved to bring color and flash to his cleats. In 2010, he was fined $1,000 for wearing bright orange cleats during a game against the Marlins. (MLB then released a statement that player cleats must be at least 50% of the team's primary color, which for SF is black.) Wilson joked on the Jim Rome Show that the fine was for “having too much awesome on my feet.”
Offered here is a pair of St. Patrick's Day themed cleats that Wilson wore in a 2011 Spring Training game to honor his Irish roots. The green and white Nike Air Max cleats show solid use with dirt still present within the metal spikes on the bottoms. Wilson’s right foot was prone to excessive toe drag while pitching, and the right shoe exhibits heavy wear in that area. The interior Nike tagging indicates size 12.5 with an Aug-Dec 2010 manufacturer's date label. No pop culture artist was consulted for the design (unlike Lots 182 & 183). Instead, Wilson added his own personal touch by coloring some of the white section with a green marker. The pair comes from Brian Wilson's personal collection with a signed LOA.
