Arguably the most exciting and popular player of his generation, Ken Griffey Jr. played all but 41 games of his 22 MLB seasons in either a Seattle Mariners or Cincinnati Reds uniform. His 630 career Home Runs currently place him 6th on the all-time list. The Hall of Famer was a 13-time All-Star, winner of 10 Gold Gloves, recipient of 7 Silver Sluggers, and a four-time AL homer run champ. One of those came in 1998 when Junior blasted 56 homers, tied with his lone '97 MVP campaign for most in his career. He also drove in 146, scored 120 times and swiped 20 bases for the third-place Mariners.
Presented here is Griffey's bat he used to hit his 22nd home run of the 1998 season and number 316 of his career. The Louisville Slugger 'C271' pro model ash bat (33.75", 29.9 oz.) with a black finish is un-cracked and exhibits outstanding use. Numerous ball marks, ball stitch impressions and cleat marks are visible on all sides of the barrel. Blue bat rack streaks can be seen on the handle, which is spiral taped in The Kid's preferred crisscross pattern to enhance grip. There is a light coat of pine tar on the handle as well. Junior autographed the barrel in bold 10/10 silver marker with a key "98 HR 22" inscription.
John Taube of PSA/DNA gave the bat a perfect GU 10 grade and acknowledges it as his 22nd HR bat of 1998. It should be noted that we sold a 1991 Griffey bat (not a HR bat) in our Summer '24 Auction for $39,000. Includes two LOAs from PSA/DNA for the game use and autograph.
