- Lot Description
The best footballer ever to become head of state for his country is George Weah. After an 18-year professional soccer (1985-2003) filled with accolades, Weah served as the 25th President of Liberia from 2018-2024. On the pitch, the explosive #9 striker is still recognized as the greatest African player of all time. In 1995, Weah won both Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year honors, and he remains the only player ever to claim these prestigious awards while representing a national team from Africa.
Legendary football manager Arsène Wenger first brought Weah to Europe in 1988 to play for Monaco. He moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 1992, helping PSG win Ligue 1 in 1994 and becoming the top scorer in 1994–95 UEFA Champions League. In 1995, he signed with AC Milan and helped the famed Italian club win Serie A twice in five seasons. Described by FIFA as "the precursor of the multi-functional strikers of today," Weah was renowned for his speed, stamina, attacking instincts and clinical goal-scoring ability as he tallied 179 goals in 434 matches for those three clubs combined. Unfortunately, because Liberia has never qualified for the World Cup, Weah could not showcase his talent on the biggest stage. He did have 18 goals in 75 career caps for his country.
This offered George Weah AC Milan match worn jersey dates to his 1996-97 campaign in which the Liberian legend slotted 16 goals in 36 games. The short-sleeved, collared shirt with the club's classic red and black vertical stripes has three patches on the chest: manufacturer Lotto, the Italy flag shield, and a single yellow star (representing a decade's worth of Serie A titles). Jersey sponsor Opel (German car manufacturer) has its name and logo screen-printed on the front in white. The AC Milan team crest patch appears on the left sleeve, while the Serie A 50th anniversary (Lega Calcio 1946-1996) patch is sewn on the right sleeve. The back has "WEAH" and his famous No. "9" screened in white. The shirt is tagged by Lotto inside the collar with a size XL flag tag. It displays a moderate amount of wear with a well-laundered wash instructions tag on the inner left side. Comes with LOA from MEARS.
