In sports, some players just have a knack for winning wherever they go. That’s Paul O’Neill in a nutshell. The left-handed hitting right fielder started out in the National League with the Cincinnati Reds where he helped Barry Larkin and company win multiple NL West division titles and the 1990 World Series. After joining the Yankees in 1993, O’Neill won the ’94 AL batting title and was part of the 1996-2001 Bronx Bombers dynasty that played in the Fall Classic every year but one and claimed four championships. His No. 21 is retired by the Yankees. Offered here is O’Neill’s game worn Reds home jersey from their 1990 World Championship campaign. Cincinnati finished 91-71 before defeating the Pirates in the NLCS and sweeping the mighty Oakland A’s in the World Series. He batted .270 with 16 homers and 78 RBI for the season.
The white knit pullover has the Reds team patch on the left chest, with O’Neill’s No. 21 on the right chest and verso. His NOB is arched on the upper back and sewn directly on the shirt. All letters and numbers are done in red-on-white tackle twill. A red and white ribbed collar and sleeve ends round out this classic Reds gamer. It is properly tagged by Rawlings inside the left front tail indicating size 46 with a 2” extra length hang tag and “Set 1 1990” flag tag. An additional “T” swatch label is present. The shirt displays moderate usage with a few fabric snags, frayed threads, and spot soiling. Sourced through the Reds organization by renowned baseball jersey evaluator Dave Grob, who has added a letter of provenance.
