- Lot Description
Offered here is the late Gary Carter's personal equipment bag from the 1984 MLB All-Star Game held at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The beige colored bag measures approximately 10" tall by 20" wide, with the official 1984 All-Star Game logo emblazoned on one side. Carter started at catcher for the National League and was named MVP of the '84 Midsummer Classic after hitting a go-ahead solo homer in the bottom of the 2nd inning off AL starter Dave Stieb. The NL held on for a 3-1 victory. Carter had his best offensive season in 1984, batting a career-high .294 with 27 home runs and a league-leading 106 RBI for the Montreal Expos. He has signed the bag with the long inscription, "Gary Carter #8, All-Star MVP, 1 Home Run, Game Winner," in bold black marker.
The bag remains in excellent condition with all zippers and straps perfectly functional. Wear is consistent with single-game usage. While we cannot definitely say this bag was used by Gary Carter at the '84 All-Star Game, it does have a Gary Carter certification hologram affixed next to his autograph. Our consignor purchased the bag in 2003 and it was presented to him as Carter's used bag from the game. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA for Carter's signature and inscription.
