Upon taking office in 1981, Ronald Reagan made it his mission to promote democracy around the world. He masterfully met the Soviets head-on, alternating between tough rhetoric and deft diplomatic negotiations. By the end of his second term, the Soviet Union and its satellite states in Eastern Europe had begun to dissolve, marking the beginning of the end of the Cold War. Closer to home, Reagan formed the Presidential Commission on Broadcasting to Cuba. This organization broadcast uncensored news and information programming to offer Cubans an alternative to their communist state-run media. This document was signed by Ronald Reagan in 1982 to appoint a member to the Presidential Commission on Broadcasting to Cuba. The appointment has been matted with a photographic portrait of the 40th president and an engraved plaque listing his career achievements. The complete framed display measures 29.5” x 43.5” and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
