Harvey Haddix pitched 14 seasons (1952-65) in the big leagues, finishing with a 136-113 career record. The southpaw made three straight NL All-Star teams as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals (1953-55) and later won three consecutive Gold Glove awards (1958-60). His tenure with the Pittsburgh Pirates began in 1959 and was best remembered for his mind-blowing 12 perfect innings thrown on May 26, 1959, a game the Bucs ended up losing to the Braves in the 13th inning. In Game 7 of the 1960 World Series, Haddix came on in relief in and got the win after Mazeroski’s famous walk-off home run. When his playing days ended, he became a successful coach for nearly two decades, culminating with a return to the Pirates from 1979-84. It was in 1979, the famous “We Are Family” championship run of Willie Stargell and company, that Haddix wore this offered Pirates jersey as the club’s pitching coach.
The “Canary Yellow” alternate pullover shirt comes in size 40 and is properly tagged by Wilson behind the collar. A “57 79” strip tag is sewn on the left front tail. The “PIRATES” letters across the chest and No. “57” front and back are all-original and done in black-on-white tackle twill. The back nameplate has been removed as was common practice for Pirates jerseys in that. It shows good use overall and includes a MEARS LOA graded A8.
