- Lot Description
This battle-scarred helmet was worn by Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz as he helped USC overcome Ohio State in the 1980 Rose Bowl. Though USC had won the previous Rose Bowl, Ohio State had gone through the 1979 season undefeated and untied. However, led by Heisman Trophy running back Charles White, the Trojans scored a 4th quarter touchdown to edge out the Buckeyes, 17-16. Among the victorious Trojans was senior Anthony Munoz who would go on to have a Hall of Fame career with the Cincinnati Bengals. This game used helmet has been photomatched to the one worn by Munoz in the 1980 Rose Bowl. The Riddell helmet has been finished in the USC colors with a Trojan decal applied on both sides. The helmet displays tremendous game use, with gouges and scuffs throughout along with adhesive tape modifications made to the face guard. Munoz’s number “77” is handwritten on the inside padding in black marker. An awesome Rose Bowl gamer definitively attributed to Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz. The helmet comes with a LOA from Resolution Photomatching.
