This wire photo captures Ted Williams on the day he hit his 400th career home run. Williams hit the milestone homer, a 430 foot shot into the right field bleachers, at home against Kansas City on July 17, 1956. Williams poses after the game with a bat and ball with the magic number “400” printed on both. This wire photo accompanied many next-day stories reporting on Ted’s remarkable milestone. This exact image was given even more exposure when it was heavily airbrushed and included as card number 57 in Fleer’s 1959 Ted Williams card set. A slabbed PSA NM-MT 8 example of this card is included with this original wire photo. Measuring 9” x 7,” the Type III photo is printed to its edge and has the caption slug below the image. The reverse is blank. A tremendous chance to obtain one of the most iconic Ted Williams photos along with a stunning example of the card that immortalized the image. Encapsulated Type III by PSA/DNA.
