- Lot Description
Total number of unsigned 1954 Topps #90 Willie Mays cards in the PSA pop report = 4,810 (as of writing this). Number of autographed copies? Twenty. By comparison, the coveted Hank Aaron and Ernie Banks rookie cards from this iconic Topps issue have 381 and 137 signed versions, respectfully, making a dual-grade example from the Say Hey Kid exponentially scarcer.
This vibrant standout with a well-positioned Mays signature in bold blue ballpoint pen earned a 9 auto grade from PSA/DNA. The card itself is graded PSA GD 2 due primarily to its poor centering and a white mark on Mays' full body depiction, although the rest of the attributes are quite eye appealing. The bright yellow colors provide the perfect backdrop to Mays' penmanship, and the card's smooth surface and clean borders make both images of the Hall of Fame center-fielder come through in pinpoint resolution. Evenly rounded corners and an unblemished back round out the condition elements worth noting. Most importantly, out of 20 dual-authenticated copies in PSA's pop report, only six have registered a better card grade.
