The presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower was marked by the post world war economic boom and the growth of the middle class. Luxuries that previously had been available only to the more affluent, such as automobiles or a home in the suburbs, suddenly became more achievable to the average American. This in turn made the United States’ more reliable on oil resources than ever before. To source the oil Americans needed meant the nation had to cultivate political relations with the countries of the Middle East. This 1953 document signed by President Eisenhower appoints the U.S. Ambassador to the oil-rich nation of Saudi Arabia. The appointment has been matted with a print of a painted portrait of the 34th president along with an engraved plaque listing his career achievements. The complete framed display measures 31" x 45" and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
