- Lot Description
Featured here is an original Type 1 photo of the great Ted Williams in action during the 1951 season. In full swing after launching one in the air, he is pictured in his road uniform with American League Golden Anniversary patch visible on his left sleeve. The Splendid Splinter had another tremendous season in '51, batting .318 with 30 HR, 126 RBI and 144 BB, one of eight times he led the AL in walks. After serving three years during World War II, Williams was called upon again in 1952 to serve in the Korean War. Stamped on the reverse by the Brown Brothers, the nation's oldest stock photo archive, the photograph comes in fantastic shape with a smooth surface, clean white borders and minor corner wear. The crystal-clear action shot provides a unique perspective of Ted's majestic lefty swing in perfect form as he, the catcher and umpire all follow the ball's flight path.
