Rarely seen original Tyle 1 photograph of the seven New York Yankees who would represent the American League at the 1938 All-Star Game in Cincinnati. From left to right are manager Joe McCarthy, Lou Gehrig, Red Ruffing, Lefty Gomez, Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dickey and Red Rolfe (the only non-HOFer). The slug on the reverse contains a long caption alongside a newspaper clipping that used this exact image. For the Iron Horse, the '38 Midsummer Classic would be his last as ALS was just about to wreak havoc on his body. 23-year-old Joltin' Joe, in his third season, was ready to take the torch from Lou as the face of the Bronx Bombers. McCarthy's boys went on to win their third straight World Series title in the fall.
The seven men in their home pinstripes are perfectly lined up in the dugout with a row of bats in front. DiMaggio looks directly at the camera. Gehrig is squinting from the sun. Exceptional picture quality with sharp edges and corners.
