Offered here is a 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics participation medal complete with its original case. There are four different versions, all made of bronze, and this one is of the darker brown variety. The obverse etched with "XI Olympiade Berlin 1936" depicts an artistic layer of five athletes representing the five continents pulling the ropes of the Olympic Bell. The reverse shows the Olympic bell embossed with the German Eagle. Designer "Otto Placzek" is etched on the reverse on the lower right rim. The minter hallmark has mostly worn off on the bottom edge from wear and age. Weight is 116 grams diameter is 70 mm and thickness ranges 3-6 mm with the raised relief depictions. 3,980 total athletes participated but only a fraction of those received this version. Comes in Fine condition with moderate oxidation on the reverse.
