As 30th president of the United States, Calvin Coolidge presided over the country’s postwar boom. While America was experiencing the advent of the “Roaring Twenties” era, the outside world was undergoing rapid changes as the powers of the empires of Britain, France, and Germany receded. One such area that faced extraordinary upheaval was China. The once-splintered nation was rapidly coming under the united leadership of Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist Party. By 1927, careful diplomacy was needed to navigate the changes in China and this signed document appoints a new United States Vice-Consul to that emerging nation. Coolidge has signed the appointment document in clear fountain pen. The piece has been matted alongside a print of a painted portrait of the 30th president along with an engraved plaque that lists Coolidge’s career highlights. The complete framed display measures 30” x 44.5” and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
