Warren G. Harding was elected in a landslide over Democrat James M. Cox in 1920. As the 29th president, Harding guided the country as it navigated the post World War I years and found its footing as a major world power. The largest display of the United States’ new role was the Washington Naval Conference of 1921–1922 which limited the naval power of the world’s most powerful nations, preventing major conflicts for the next decade. On the home front, Harding’s time in office coincided with America’s transition from a wartime mindset to a welcome return to peace and normalcy. President Harding has signed this document appointing a postmaster to the Iowa town of Portsmouth in 1922. The signature is crisp fountain pen. The piece has been matted alongside a print of a painted portrait of Harding and an engraved plaque listing his career achievements. The complete framed display measures 29.5” x 42” and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
