Featured here is a winner’s medal awarded at the 1900 Paris Olympics (Exposition Games) made of silvered bronze. Designed by Frédéric Vernon of Paris, the obverse reads “République Francaise, Exposition Universelle, Paris 1900" in raised relief with Fame scattering laurels over the Exposition grounds. The reverse identifies the event as "Concours Scolaires de Jeux Athlétiques [School Athletic Games Competitions]" and depicts a victorious male athlete standing on a podium, with a stadium and the Acropolis in the background. The French Mint cornucopia symbol along with "BRONZE" is hallmarked on the bottom edge. Rectangular in shape and measuring 41 mm by 59 mm and 2 mm thick, it weighs 50 grams and has been exceptionally preserved in EF condition. An ideal example of a scarce version of a grand prize award medal from the Paris Exposition Games (the first World's Fair), which would eventually be credited as the second official Olympic Games.
