Grover Cleveland holds the distinction of being the only U.S. president to serve non-consecutive term. His first term from 1885 to 1889 coincided with the settlement of the Western part of the country. The discovery of precious minerals such as gold and silver spurned an economic boom and led to mass migration west by native-born Americans and immigrants alike seeking their fortune. This document appoints a consul of the British government for Prescott, Arizona. At the time President Cleveland signed this document in crisp black fountain pen, Prescott and the surrounding area was home to many lucrative gold and silver mining operations as well as home to such Old West notables as Virgil Earp and Doc Holliday. The appointment document has been matted alongside a photographic print of the 22nd and 24th president and an engraved plaque listing his career achievements. The complete framed display measures 29” x 42” and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
