During James K. Polk’s presidency, the United States went to war with Mexico, resulting in the annexation of what we know today as the American Southwest. He also skillfully settled a land dispute along the Oregon border that had threatened to erupt into another war with Great Britain. Though extremely popular with Americans during his time in the White House, Polk kept his campaign pledge to only serve a single term. This presidential pardon was signed by President Polk in 1848 and has also been signed by Secretary of State James Buchanan who would later become the 15th president in 1857. The pardon letter has been smartly mounted with portraits of both Polk and Buchanan along with engraved plaques listing the two president’s accomplishments. The complete framed display measures 29" x 41.5" and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
