George Dureau (1930-2014) was an American artist and photographer known for his figurative paintings and photographs, particularly his depictions of the male nude. He was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, and spent the majority of his life there. Dureau's work often focused on marginalized and unconventional subjects, such as individuals with disabilities, African American men, and people from the LGBTQ+ community. He sought to capture the beauty and dignity of these often overlooked individuals, challenging societal norms and stereotypes. In addition to his paintings, Dureau was also an accomplished photographer. He captured intimate and often sensual portraits of his models, employing dramatic lighting and a keen attention to detail.
