Dove was born on August 2, 1880, in Canandaigua, New York. He initially pursued a career in the field of commercial illustration and worked as a magazine illustrator in New York City. However, his passion for art led him to explore more experimental and abstract approaches to painting. Dove's artistic style evolved over the years, and he embraced abstraction as a means of expressing his inner experiences and the essence of nature. He was particularly inspired by the natural world, and his paintings often captured the organic forms, colors, and rhythms found in landscapes and seascapes. Dove's works are characterized by their simplified forms, bold colors, and expressive brushwork. He utilized various techniques, including overlapping shapes, vibrant hues, and rhythmic patterns, to convey a sense of dynamism and energy in his compositions.
