Germany, Symphonion musical clock, playing pierced center drive steel discs on request. A well made time and music movement is wound from the rear. Pin-pallet escapement. The music is serviced by lifting the hinged top. A special brass retainer holds the discs in place for playing. The comb has 30 teeth and included are 10 lively tunes on 4 1/2 inch {Symphonion #20) discs. Well made walnut case with finely turned and embossed moldings top and bottom. The case supported on four turned bun feet. There is a start-stop lever near the top on the right side, plus a horizontal bar that locks the top in place.
Condition
The case is complete and nice with no losses. Original dial surround is still bright, celluloid chapter with half dozen dry splits, hands original. Time movement ticks & stops (needs cleaning) and music plays; music spring on right was left wound for many years and has taken a set, so one or two plays is about all you can expect until spring is renewed. Heavy cast iron bed-plate produces fine tone. This is an uncommon model that doesn't turn up that often, complete with discs. Discs all show titles and Symphonion trademark. See Bower's "Encyclopedia of Mechanical Musical Instruments", page 216 for photo of this model. ACCESSORIES: Plastic box with discs, winding key , 12in x 7.25in x 7.25in
