German, an early Junghans swinging arm clock, the arm with early canister back cover, and solid cast frame. The statue of spelter with patinated bronze finish, showing "Liberty", holding in her left hand a tablet inscribed "4th July 1776", and holding the torch in her right hand which carries the jewel bar that supports the movement; the whole mounted on a wooden base.
Condition
The unsigned movement is complete, and runs for a few minutes, the hand set clutch has frozen [needs a clean] so the hand set knob just turns. The cast arm retains some gilding, but mostly worn to copper. Note that movement is basically the same as later versions, but they later changed the attachment of the movement and added a full press fit cover, plus a different design arm with rods. The dial and reflector ring are good, hands original; small dings in outer dial bezel. Wooden base is intact with original finish, bottom underneath scored a bit from a rough surface. Overall a very nice example of an uncommon Junghans. ACCESSORIES: Two pieces= statue and clock arm, 18in x 5in x 5in
