Germany, an early unsigned Lenzkirch open escapement Vienna style 1-weight regulator, serial 59855, case style 313, as illustrated in Dana Blackwell's book titled "Vienna Regulators", 1981. Case has original heavy brass mounting for the movement, the case back with well figured Carpathian elm. Lenzkirch produced upscale items, and around half are not signed, but the movements are all serial numbered and of unique design. Additional history can be found in George Everett's book titled "Lenzkirch Clocks, the Unsigned Story." Retains original winding crank with bone or ivory handle.
Condition
This clock came to us from storage. The movement is complete; would benefit from lubrication. The tail to the minute hand has broken off, now on card in bottom of case. The case seem to retain its original finish, touched up in several places, and crazed in other areas; top trim re-glued.. The base of one top final has a chunk out. There are 2 holes in the case back around midway, where the clock was screwed to a wall; otherwise no additional holes. Lock in door is intact, but present key does not fit.
