Tiffany & Co., New York, a good late 19th century minute repeating split seconds chronograph owned by August Belmont, 30 - 32 jewel, stem wind and set, cotes de Geneve decorated nickel plate movement with counterpoised lever escapement and cut bimetallic balance with gold screws in an 18 karat, hinged back and bezel open face case with Jurgensen lips, the back with engraved coat of arms, cuvette with commemorative engraving celebrating Henry of Navarre's victory at the Suburban Handicap of June 23, 1896, and the inside of the cuvette with presentation from August Belmont III to Gardner Lewis III, roman numeral, outer black 5-minute markers white enamel dial with blued steel spade and whip hands, serial #97010, 46.5mm, 92.3g TW, case, dial and movement signed Tiffany & Co.
CASE: A few small, shallow dents; A few dings; Very fine scratches and minor scuffing on outer surface of case; Very fine scratches on cuvette; Engraving with moderate wear; Rear cover snap worn; Bow replaced; Crown shell starting to wear through; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: Faint hairlines from center to 1 - 2:00 and 7 - 8:00. HANDS: Minute with minor oxide. MOVEMENT PLATES: Haze; Very fine scratches on plate; Some steel components with fine scratches; Column wheel cap and screw with localized, minor oxide; Chronograph lever with spots of oxide; Speck of oxide on balance endstone setting; A few specks of oxide on chronograph wheel cock. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets, and ticks). COMPLICATIONS: Functioning properly, would benefit from service. August Belmont was an American financier, builder of Belmont Park horse race track, and an owner and breeder of thoroughbreds. 2.) Arrange for shipping:
Most watches, coins and jewelry can be shipped in-house. A shipping fee will be included on your invoice if your item can be shipped in-house. In-house shipping is done via Fed Ex Second Day Air unless otherwise requested or specified.
For clocks and all other items the list of shipping agents below has been provided for your convenience. You may work with any independent shipper you choose. Schmitt Horan & Co. assumes no responsibility for error or omission by any third-party agent.
All successful bidders are responsible for all packing and shipping charges, which are not included in the sales price. Bidders shall pay the shipping agent directly before items are delivered. Quotes provided by the shipping agents are approximate and are subject to reasonable adjustments once the item(s) is picked up.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL RETURNS BE ACCEPTED OR REFUNDS ISSUED LATER THAN 30 DAYS AFTER THE AUCTION. It is the responsibility of the bidder to make sure they receive their items before the 30 day return period is over. Transit damage alone is not sufficient reason to return an item. We and the shipping agents will gladly assist in claims against transport companies.
