A late 19th century American stoneware diminutive Temperance jug, Missouri. A twining snake with yellow spots forms the handle, its mouth on the head of a man jutting from the jug's shoulder, two other snakes, a lizard and a turtle applied to the body, on an incised ground resembling wood grain, with reddish brown glaze. Incised initials and date "S. LB 1885" underneath. A smaller snake applied at the rim is damaged. Lacking a stopper. 7" high. ESTIMATE $2,000-3,000
