Including 1 James Madison signature cut from a document, as Secretary of State; together with 2 formal letters, one sent to Dolly Madison from Erastus Corning (1794-1872), Mayor of Albany, New York upon the death of her husband, dated July 11, 1836, and the other a resolution prepared by Albany city council, dated July 4, 1836, referencing the late President as a patriot, eminent statesman, and framer of the Constitution; 1 Free Frank envelope addressed to Dolly Madison, Montpelier, Vermont, docketed in her hand as received; 1 oil painting depicting President James Madison, by Robert Benson, presidential collector and painter; and 1 gold plated U. S. Government issued medallion from a series honoring past presidents. Clipped signature paper is toned; pages and envelope are creased, small stains and tears.
