A late 19th century Enamel and Silver Singing Bird Box Automaton, probably Austrian. Similar to examples by Karl Griesbaum, hand painted 18th century style pastoral scenes, engine-turned and guilloche panels, bird-form lever slides to open the oval hinged lid revealing a feathered bird. Stamped "935" only underneath. In a fitted presentation case, with key. A very small spot of white enamel missing at one side. The key fits the wind, and turns; bird pops up and moves slightly. Lid requires some manipulation. Bird does not tweet. 4" wide. ESTIMATE $4,000-6,000
