Zahiruddin Muhammad Babur (1483-1530) Mughal, The Baburnama Folio Society Edition. This exquisite book is titled The Baburnama, a history of the Mogul Empire written by Zahiruddin Muhammad Babur way back in the 1500’s and published by The Folio Society in 2013 with an introduction by Salman Rushie.

Babur (1483 - 1530) was the founder of the Mogul Empire and a descendant of Timur and Genghis Khan. He started his life as a staunch Sunni Muslim and after he ascended the throne, he became more tolerant and humanistic; he conquered and ruled most of Central Asia, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka, and he was treated as a national hero in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
He wrote the book between 1526 and 1530, when he died; the first English edition was translated and published in 1826, Wheeler Thackston’s translation was first published by the Oxford University Press in 1996, and the Folio Society edition was published in 2013.
Salman Rushdie is an Indian-born British-American novelist known for works that blend magical realism and historical fiction, and his writings explore themes of life and death. In 1989 his fifth book, The Satanic Verses, prompted a fatwa against him - a bounty was placed on his head by some Muslims who considered the book blasphemous - and it sparked a culture war in Britain between those who felt the book was sacrilegious and those who defended it as an expression of freedom of speech; that led to protests and book burnings, and several attempts were made on Rushdie’s life.
The book is 1/4 bound, the blue spine has gilt lettering and gilt decorations, elaborate decorations on the front cover, blue endpapers, the half-title, a beautiful colored frontis, the title page is followed by the copyright page, which has the publishing history of the book, then two pages of Contents, a seven-page list of Illustrations, a Preface to the Illustrations, a seven-page Introduction by Salman Rushdie, a Translator’s Preface, a four-page Chronology, eight Maps, the text runs from page 5 to 441, followed by extensive Notes (443 - 493), three pages of Genealogical Tables, a lengthy Bibliography (57 pages), a six-page Glossary, an Index of Persons and an Index of Places at the rear, the top edge is gilt, and it comes in a beautiful blue slipcase.
The book measures 11 1/4 x 8 inches wide in the slipcase, with a tight binding, clean pages, clean text, clean illustrations, the book is pristine inside, and the only blemish is a small bump in the lower right corner of the front board. A great book and one of the world's great autobiographical memoirs.
