Poster print of Weiss' portrait of a Native American chief. Unframed.
Condition: Commensurate with age. Staining on left side verso.
Size: 28 x 18 in.
Winold Reiss (1886–1953) was a German-American artist and designer known for his vibrant portraits, murals, and graphic designs. Born in Karlsruhe, Germany, he studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts before emigrating to the United States in 1913. Reiss became celebrated for his portraits of Native Americans, African Americans, and other underrepresented groups, blending European modernist techniques with a deep respect for his subjects' cultural identities. He also designed striking Art Deco interiors and illustrations, including works for the Harlem Renaissance magazine The New Negro. His legacy reflects a unique fusion of modernist aesthetics and cultural diversity.
