- Lot Description
Walter Kuhlman (American 1918-2009) California Seascape. Signed and dated on the reverse. Walter Egel Kuhlman was a significant figure in the San Francisco School of Abstract Expressionism. Born in Minnesota, he studied at the St. Paul School of Art and the University of Minnesota. After serving in the Navy, he moved to California and enrolled in the California School of Fine Arts, where he became part of a vibrant artistic community. Kuhlman's work evolved from abstract expressionism to a more figurative style. He taught at various universities, including the University of California, Berkeley, and Sonoma State University. His paintings and prints are held in numerous public and private collections.
