Tsujiokaya Kamekichi (Late 19th/Early 20th Century) Japanese, Woodblock Print. Publisher and artist's signatures lower right.
Woodblock print depicting three figures, two men and one woman, presumably actors, each individual accompanied by a name tag.
Condition: Commensurate with age.
Overall Size: 15 x 10 1/2 in.
Sight Size:13 1/4 x 9 in.Tsujiokaya Kamekichi (active late 18th to early 19th century) was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist renowned for his contributions to woodblock printmaking during the Edo period. Known for his portraits of beautiful women, kabuki actors, and portraits of sumo wrestlers, Kamekichi's work reflected the dynamic urban culture of Edo (modern-day Tokyo). His style was characterized by intricate details and vibrant color palettes, with an emphasis on the theatrical and popular entertainment of the time. Although not as widely recognized as some of his ukiyo-e contemporaries, Kamekichi’s prints are highly valued for their elegance, precision, and insight into the cultural atmosphere of the era.
