- Lot Description
Tibetan Parcel Gilt Bronze Earth Touching Buddha Statue. A moderate size bronze statue with partial gilt covering of the Buddhia in 'Earth Touching' mudra.
This hand position in Buddhism is called the "Bhumisparsha Mudra," also known as the "Earth Touching Mudra," where the left hand rests in the lap with the palm facing upwards, while the right hand is placed on the right knee with the palm facing down, signifying the moment when Buddha called upon the earth to witness his enlightenment by touching the ground with his fingers; essentially symbolizing his victory over temptation.
