Steven V. Correia was born on February 14th, 1949 in San Diego, California. Fascinated by sculpture and ceramics from early childhood, he later discovered a way to recreate lost techniques used by Louis Comfort Tiffany to create iridescent lustres on art glass. He attended San Diego State University for his BFA, the University of Hawaii for his MFA, and the University of California, Los Angeles for an MA. He established Correia Art Glass with his wife Patricia in 1973, becoming a vital influence in the modern glass movement both nationally and internationally. His hand-blown art glass works are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Corning Museum, the Smithsonian Institution, the Chrysler Museum of Art, the Kentucky Derby Museum, and numerous private collections. Currently, Correia designs custom sculptures from optical crystal, creating commissions primarily for corporations, organizations, and private collectors that are given as awards or gifts. Since the late 2000s he has shifted into creating large-scale environmental kinetic light sculpture, as well as audio and visual performance art which combines laser light, movement, and illusion. He continues to work out of his home studio in Santa Monica, while his children Algerine and Jeffrey now run Correia Art Glass.
