Sterling Silver Napoleonic Hussar Statue. Depicts a horse-riding soldier in regalia, with the words "USSARO NAPOLEONICO" (Napoleonic Hussar in Italian) on the marble base. Highly detailed, resin-filled.

The word “hussar” identifies a specific type of light horsemen or cavalrymen, and comes from the Hungarian “huszar.” Notorious in many conflicts and across many countries for their flamboyance, fearlessness, and indispensable presence in battles of the 17th, 18th, and 19th Centuries, the most famous hussar units were the French regiments of the Napoleonic era. They were employed for scouting and communication purposes, and to screen the movement of the Emperor’s corps, like during the advance that allowed the French to flank the Austrian general Mack at Ulm in 1805. Although hussars continued to be used in World War I and II the invention of the machine gun and other modern warfare made them less useful and often more desirable targets, with some of the last horseriding regiments being disbanded in France in the 1990s. Today the term is still in use, now applied to armored tank units by various militaries.
