"Sorry, Wrong Number" Australian Daybill Framed Poster. "Sorry, Wrong Number" is a 1948 American thriller and film noir directed by Anatole Litvak, from a screenplay by Lucille Fletcher, based on her 1943 radio play of the same title. It follows a bedridden woman who overhears the plotting of a murder while on the telephone, and attempts to contact anyone who might help prevent the crime. Barbara Stanwyck was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance. It is one of the few pre-1950 Paramount Pictures films which remained in the studio’s library (the rest are currently owned by NBCUniversal).

A daybill is a variety of Australian film posters first issued in the 1920s to cinemas at the time of a film’s release. A daybill usually measures at least 13 by 30 inches, making it significantly thinner than traditional posters. Until the 1970s most daybills were printed as lithographs, and in the 1960s some posters began copying American printing techniques to achieve a glossy finish that suited the more photographic images becoming prevalent in poster design. Today, daybills are printed on thick glossy paper and are much more durable. Older daybills are sought-after by collectors for their rarity and unique artwork, including Halloween (1978) because Australia was the only country to depict Michael Myers in a direct pose from the film and The Empire Strikes Back (1980) because it featured one-of-a-kind artwork developed in Japan. A daybill for Metropolis (1928) in pristine condition fetched $215,100 at auction in 2017.
