Signed Encaustic Art Wax Rectangle. A wax rectangle with abstract composition, a stark black stripe across the upper half of the piece. Mounted to wood frame for hanging. Inscribed signature verso, dated '06.
Encaustic is an ancient painting technique that uses heated beeswax mixed with pigments to create durable, layered artworks. Applied in molten form and fused with heat, encaustic allows for rich texture, depth, and translucency, making it unique among painting methods. Originating in ancient Egypt and Greece, it was notably used for Fayum mummy portraits. Modern encaustic artists experiment with mixed media, incorporating materials like paper, fabric, and sculpture. The technique is valued for its luminous quality, resilience, and ability to be reworked even after cooling, making it a versatile medium for contemporary and historical art.
