Sigfried Reinhardt(1925-1984), German, Drawing. Titled "Pathos" Signed, lower right, & Dated (Image 4) Cocoa Beach. 1944.
The detailed nude presents the subject scantily dressed full of beauty and the juxtaposition of Sadness. Despite showcasing a sultry scene the emotions in the face show much more complex situation. As a 19-year-old at the time of the painting; artist feels for the subject, or personally knows more than drawing a pure stranger.
Born in Eydkuhnen, Germany, Siegfried Reinhardt became an active painter, muralist, teacher, and designer in St. Louis, Missouri where he was a member of the St. Louis Art Guild.
Of the many things Siegfried Reinhardt will be remembered for; his most iconic piece was a 142 foot long mural on the History of Flight that is seen by millions at the St. Louis International Airport/Lambert Field in the original terminal building (1980-2010). I believe was designed by architect Eero Saarinen. Located on the lower level of the former TWA gate complex, the work is composed of eight panels. This luminous composition by Reinhardt is refreshingly vivid visual nourishment for weary travelers. It can now be seen today at the St. Louis University Engineering & Aviation Campus.Overall Size: 19 1/8 x 15 in.
