Ronald D. Simon (1934-2016) American, Metal Abstract Sculptural Wall Decor. Signature on a panel bottom right. Ron's pieces were all individual commissions and made by hand, making this a rare chance to own one of his works.

Ronald D. Simon was born in Lakewood, Ohio on April 8th, 1934. His family moved to Akron, Ohio the following year, where he began exploring art in his freshman year at Kenmore High School and obtained both a bachelors and masters degree in education from the University of Akron. In 1956 he married his wife Mary Lou Collins and moved with her to Cuyahoga Falls, where he lived for the rest of his life. From 1957 to 1986 he served as an art teacher for the Cuyahoga Falls school system. He was Teacher of the Year numerous times, a finalist for Outstanding Ohio Art Educator, and a member of the state board that helped write the art curriculum for middle and high school students. During this period he also worked on original pieces in a wide variety of mediums, with a preference for metal sculpture, eventually focusing on his art full time after retiring from teaching. Over seven hundred of his pieces have found their way into private collections across America, and an enormous six-part metal sculpture he made for the University of Akron still hangs there. The enormous patriotic mural he made with a group of students covering the Great Falls Employment Agency on Front Street for the country’s 1976 bicentennial became a national landmark, seen in music videos, documentaries, and photoshoots ever since. He accrued over thirty awards for his work in his later years, including being honored in 2012 with the Distinguished Alumni Award by the University of Akron. He passed away on October 6th, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family, and his work continues to inspire generations of new students.
