- Lot Description
Rare Strongman Apollon "Le Roi Des Athletes" Poster. Poster of the great French Strongman Apollon. Apollon was called "Le Roi des Athletes" (the King of Athletes). More than 100 years later, no one has ever come close to bettering and of his accomplishments. He is shown performing a Muscle Out with a ring weight and a small horse. Lower middle says Affiches Americaines CH-LEVY 4-Rue Matel Paris.
Condition: Commensurate with age. Small tear near the neck, and crease lines throughout.
Overall Size: 29 x 40 in.
Sight Size: 26 3/4 x 37 1/2 in.
#19 #9049Apollon the Mighty was alive 1862-1928. Born as Louis Uni, his career spanned the late 19th and early 20th century. He was famous for his exceptional grip strength. Apollon descended from a family of locally well0known giants. The average male height in France in 1800 was 5 foot 4 inches, and his father was 6 foot 8 inches. Apollon ran away when he was 14 and joined the traveling Italian circus "Caramagne" at Lunel near his home town.
