Australian born Peter Lik had Czech parents who came to Australia after World War II as refugees. Lik started with a Kodak Brownie box camera at the age of eight! Since then, he has become known for his limited edition landscape photographs and for taking risks to get the right ‘shot’. Lik was entirely self taught, working hard on his craft before coming to the United States in 1984. He photographed landscapes in all 50 states. Five years, 50,000 miles and 1,000 rolls of film later, Lik completed the ‘Biggest Challenge of my Life’. He has received the Master Photographer award from both the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) and the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). Lik was also awarded fellowships by the British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP) and the Royal Photographic Society (RPS).
He met fellow photographer Allen Prier in Alaska who introduced him to the medium format panoramic camera. After this, Lik returned home to Australia where he started up his own fine art publishing company, and opened his first gallery in his adopted hometown of Cairns. American landscapes still held his fascination, so he decided to move back to the U.S. permanently, settling in Las Vegas and opening his own business. Lik ended up opening four galleries in Las Vegas, along with nine others across the United States, and one in Noosa Heads, Queensland.
