Persian Hamadan Open Medallion Rug. The medallion in the middle of the white field has tones of red, blue, green, and pink, with repeating motifs and colors there and along the edges.

Hamadan rugs are known for their distinctive designs, featuring a wide range of colours and materials. Traditionally, Hamadan weavers use hand-spun wool to create the rugs, dyed with natural, vibrant colours derived from local plants and minerals. The weaving technique involves a symmetrical Turkish knot with a distinctive single weft, with knot densities typically ranging from 40 to 100 knots per square inch.
Popular motifs and designs include geometric patterns, medallions, and floral elements, reflecting the diverse cultural influences from surrounding regions and cities but with a more town or tribal style to the weaving. Each rug is unique, showcasing the weaver's artistic flair and the rich history of Hamadan.
